The tinkling of windchimes, rustling of leaves on an olive tree and the ebbs and flows of our infinity pool. No sirens? No bus horns? No Whatsapp beeps? No. I’m writing this from a remote cottage in Kefalonia – a tranquil retreat that’s a far cry from London – the city that never sleeps and the place I call home.
It’s the run up to London Fashion Week and I’m in serious need of a recharge before catwalks, flashbulbs and hashtags take over my life so I debunk to Villa Ifandis – a delightful stone cottage set in the steep hills above Skala – for rest, relaxation and a serious reboot.
Nestled amongst the olive trees and herds of goats in Old Skala, the drive up to the quaint cottage is rather hairy but it’s worth it for the breathtaking panoramic views, which I find myself aimlessly staring at for a good portion of my stay.
The villa, which encourages relaxation and the opportunity to escape from modern day pressures, is one of several owned by Unique Villas – a top quality holiday rental company.
What really sets Unique Villas apart from other villa rental companies is the added personal touch.
The company employs its own ground services team of maintenance and cleaning staff that are on hand at all times to cater to your every need. The pool is tended to daily and villa cleaned every three days so you get all the luxuries of a hotel but in the comfort of a secluded and peaceful villa.
Better yet, the concierge, run by a knowledgeable local Brit named Graham, who has lived on the island for nearly ten years, will cater to your every need. Hiring a car is a prerequisite but Graham will take care of that, you just need to show up at the airport. Despite having a car, thanks to the concierge, you don’t even need to leave your villa if you so desire.
